A TripAdvisor acirc cent TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Yellowstone National Park United States by TravelPod blogger Kwmg titled quot Geysers bison and black bear cubs quot Kwmg s travel blog entry quot A 7 hour drive from Salt Lake City brought us to the Pancake Caf Atilde copy just on the outskirts of Yellowstone Food becoming a repulsively alluring factor on our trip we were lured in once again with a promise of the worlds best fluffy and light pancakes After such a long drive we felt deserving of a little treat to prep us up before we entered the land of the buffalos and brown bears We paid our 25 to the Yellowstone ranger got handed a map and entered into the open outback of America Creating a lasting impression almost instantly Morgan and I were floored with the vast land that surrounded us It was not as luscious as Yosemite A lot of the tall pine trees that surrounded us on the drive into the park were naked to the core and rustic red in colour It was clear that a fire had taken this area and sucked out all it s greenness and just left the shell of tall trees and spiny twigs remaining Whether it was a natural fire or back brining we are not sure Fire we learnt is a very important part of the natural process in national parks to help regenerate tree growth The result of this created an eerie open landscape of browns and gold We continued along the windy roads looking for any signs of wildlife and we didn t have to wait long To this day and I believe for ever more I will remember the first bison buffalo I ever saw casually strolling past us on the open road Undeterred by the few cars slowly and cautiously passing them by they walked often in groups at a slow pace stopping to graze whenever they reached a nice patch of grass Expecting to maybe see a little deer or of herd buffaloes in the far off distant landscape Morgan and I were left speechless when we were within a meter from a giant bison His black eyes focusing on us with a look of disinterest in his stare He was aware of us but not bothered by our presence Why would he be he was the same size as most of the cars that passed him by I felt at once re-assured with the size of our van This beast moved slowly like a giant cow and looked so placid but apparently they can run up to 30 miles per hour and can grow up to 6ft tall I would not want a Bison running at me The Bison was covered in long dark hair that hung off him in patches There was a big bare patch on the top where his back humped that he had obviously shed There were patches all over the bison that were hairless and exposed a smooth black skin underneath It was spring time time for Bison to shed their coat and grow a new one The mere size was the most intimating feature on this animal the rest of their demeanor is lethargic and demure They look like simple grass grazing animals with not a care in the world It was an amazing site and the whole drive into Madison Campground was an exciting game of spot the bison and wild deer There were large open fields surrounding still lakes and at least a hundred Bison grazing by the lake There were lots of young Bison following their mothers and lots lying in the sun and taking in the morning warmth We saw deer lining the road that stopped and stared at us as we passed them by They were a lot more inquisitive then the bison and looked like at a moment s notice they would be ready to sprint off if they sensed any danger We arrived at Madison Campground to the pitter of light snow It was hard to get warm and we could only run the generator till 8pm at this campsite so we set up the BBQ after collecting the fire wood and cooked up dinner in front of the fire place then with the van all toasty and warm from the heater we had running we headed inside to the warmth and shared a meal in the rugged Yellowstone wilderness Waking up cold is never a pleasant experience The temperature must have really plummeted over night and not even Morgan s body next to mine was enough to block out the cold that was seeping in We packed up and headed to the Old Faithful Center to visit Old Faithful Geyser It would be my first time seeing a geyser and I had no idea what to make of it We don t have geysers in Australia In fact there are not too many countries that actually do have active geysers I know they do in New Zealand After visiting the souvenir shop and chatting to the locals we made our way to the visitor center and were quot Read and see more at http www travelpod com travel-blog-entries kwmg 1 1274292924 tpod html Photos from this trip 1 quot Morning light quot 2 quot Mule Deer in the morning quot 3 quot Roaming Bisons quot 4 quot Black bear cub quot 5 quot A brown Black bear cub quot 6 quot Mommoth hot Spring quot See this TripWow and more at http tripwow tripadvisor com tripwow ta-00cc-01fc-c4f5 ytv4 1
